About Us
Youth Hostel is a HOME AWAY FROM HOME. Youth Hostels are not like hotel, impersonal places at which guest merely pay charges. In a Youth Hostel, one never feels a stranger, there are Manager (mostly husband and wife team), ever prepared to listen to the problems of young guests, advice them, help them and make them feel at home among friends. In return, the young travelers are expected to help the Managers, to keep the Hostel clean and also help in house keeping.
Objective
Youth Hostel offer wholesome, rejuvenating and fruitful opportunities to the youth to fulfill their desire to see, to appreciate and learn out of doors. They also offer fun, friendship and warm welcome to all those who travel on their own steam. Youth Hostels thus promote youth travel by providing inexpensive hosteling facilities to young persons on their educational excursions to historical and cultural centers intended to foster feelings of better understanding of each other, gain knowledge about the diversities of the country and encounter natural beauties and past history.
History
The History of Youth Hostel dates back to the early 20th century when Richard Schirrmann, a German elementary school teacher, founded the first Youth Hostel in 1909. Richard Schirrmann was found organizing trips and outdoor excursions for his students in order to enable young people living in industrial cities to enjoy the country side. As the story goes, during one of these excursions in the country side a sudden rainstorm forced him and his students to seek shelter in an empty school. It was then that Schirrmann hit upon the idea of using schools that were empty during holidays as hostel for young people travelling in groups in the country side. This idea developed in a very innovative way and as a result Youth Hostel came into existence.
The idea became very popular in Germany within a short time, and it further spread out in the rest of Europe. After an important conference in 1932, the idea was exported to the United States and many countries, and international youth hostel federation was born. With time, the concept of Youth Hostel guests of all age, providing cheap but comfortable accommodation and a unique atmosphere that cannot be found in Hostels. The idea rapidly spread overseas and eventually resulted in Hosteling International, an organization composed of more than 90 different Youth Hostel Associations representing over 4,500 Youth Hostel in over 80 countries
